The Master shows the world his balls

The Doctor, companion Martha Jones and all-star badass Captain Jack Harkness are back from the year bajillion to save the day in the here-and-now.

The Master’s still in office and the moment of first contact with the Toclafane is fast approaching.

Will The Master wield his infinite political influence to destroy the world? Well, things certainly don’t look good, but you won’t find out in this one. Because this is but the second instalment in the three-part saga to be concluded in N041 Last of the Time Lords.

Here's what we think of N040 The Sound of Drums

We rate Doctor Who stories on a scale from 0.0 to 5.0. For context, very few are excellent enough to merit a 5.0 in our minds, and we'd take a 0.0 Doctor Who story over a lot of other, non-Whovian stuff out there.

  1. LOL, Nik’s rant about Voodoo Child was hilarious! I hadn’t realized that it was an actual song, so I listened to it on iTunes and bought it for fun. Which just goes to show that there is no such thing as bad publicity. :)

The Master is my favorite Who villian, and I have seen all of his episodes, and I do not recall him hearing drums in any of them, so I was wondering from where in the canon this came. Curiously, I did find a mention of it in a the short story “The Duke of Dominoes” by Marc Platt, (published in the anthology Decalog in 1994) wherein the Master is in 1930’s Chicago. This is a Master-centric story, with only the briefest appearance of the Fourth Doctor, but the Master refers to hearing the incessant beating of drums. As this came out well in advance of the Paul McGann movie, I know that is not the origin. Does anyone else know?
