We speculate on the reasons for Peter Capaldi’s departure from Doctor Who in 2017, and pick some of our favourite candidates for the role of The Thirteenth Doctor.

A couple of days ago, Peter Capaldi announced to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 that his time as the Twelfth Doctor would come to an end in 2017. At the time of writing this, he’s destined to appear in one more, third, season of Doctor Who, and the 2017 Christmas Special, before retiring his red-lined coat and passing the torch – *ahem* Sonic Screwdriver – to his successor.

The day after this truth bomb hit the airwaves we sat down to discuss this truth bomb and to ask the important questions, such as:

  • Whom would we like to see as the next Doctor?
  • Do we agree with the bookies, or even the BBC?
  • Is it finally time for a female Doctor?
  • Will the Capaldi Era have lasted long enough?
  • And much, much more…

Have a listen to this bonus episode, and let us know if you agree or disagree with what we said. Who’s your favourite pick for the next Doctor? The bookies seem to favour Richard Ayoade, Ben Wishaw and Olivia Colman, to name a few — do you agree? Let us know in the comment section below! The world needs to know!

Here's what you think 4 Responses to “B031 Breaking News: Capaldi Leaving Doctor Who”
  1. My top 3 in no particular order would be:

    Dev Patel (good call Nikulele)
    Chiwetel Ejiofor
Emma Thompson (the one person you forgot from Love Actually)

Also if we had to go with a white male:
Richard E. Grant (just to make Scream of the Shalka canon-ish)

  2. Chiwetel Ejiofor would be pretty amazetastic!
    Also, new candidate: Hermione Norris

Btw, I looked up another chap whose name came up during the aforementioned Twitter Ping-Pong, namely, Iwan Rheon. I thought he was just a kid who liked to cut off his enemies’ penises, but it turns out he only looks young and might even be several shades of awesome in the part.

Alas, Dev Patel falls into the “too handsome and too young(-looking)” category for me.
